Heat Pumps Are Different

From year to year here in Oregon, heat pumps are gaining in popularity But even with their growing popularity, you may not know how they are different from a more conventional heating and cooling system.

Instead of creating their own heat like more traditional heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, heat pumps simply use the energy already there. They transfer the heat from one location to another.

If the inside temperature of your home is too cool, your heat pump extracts the heat from outdoors and transfers it indoors to be used to heat your home. The same holds true when your home is too hot indoors. Your heat pump extracts your indoor heat and transfers it to the outside, leaving your indoors cool and comfortable.

This heat transferring is accomplished with coils. Depending on your type of heat pump, it extracts energy from either the air, water, or ground. Your heat pump does not burn any fossil fuel to heat and cool your home as more traditional systems do. This makes it highly environmentally friendly as well as extremely energy efficient.

Why You Want a Heat Pump

Heat pumps have advantages over other more traditional heating and cooling systems, which can make them a very attractive option. An important advantage of a heat pump is its environmentally friendly attribute, as it runs cleanly without using fossil fuel. No gases or fumes. It uses electricity, making it a cleaner source of energy. It creates one-and-a-half to three times more energy than it uses.

Another heat pump advantage is its all-in-one design. It can both heat and cool your home, making it convenient and cost-effective. There are no extra components or elements to install.

Yet another advantage of a heat pump is its safety. Since it runs on electricity, no risks exist for carbon-monoxide poisoning or gas explosions.

Heat Pump Installation in Beaverton, OR 97007

“I picked Columbia NW to do HVAC replacement at our house in Oct'2023 due to competitive pricing, good reviews and above all the inputs provided by sales consultant Dan Schillereff. Even though I worked with him after 9 months of initial quote he was kind enough to honor it. I had an auxillary gas furnace and heat pump combination installed by Columbia NW Heating and was pleased with the overall service. I was particularly impressed by the work of KC Werner and the other gentleman in the installation team, addressing all of my requests and performing a quality job. Even though the location of heat pump was not a convenient one, Dan with KC and the third person were able to lift the whole unit & place it where it needed to be.
Columbia NW was fantastic to work with. I highly recommend them and I will be using them to replace our other system next year.” – Vijay D.
